Missions in Cambodia: The Inaugural service of the Synod Presbyterian Church in Cambodia
On 18th July 2015, the Presbyterian Church in Singapore (PCS) and the Synod Presbyterian Church in Cambodia (SPCC) jointly organized the Inaugural Service of the Synod Presbyterian Church in Cambodia and 1st Ordination Service in Phnom Penh. It was a momentous event as we celebrate the establishment of the new Synod in Cambodia officially registered with the Cambodian Government since January 2015.
The Guests-of-honour were His Excellency (H.E.) Mr Seang Bun Leang, the special Advisor to the President of Cambodia, Rev. Dr Kevin Lowe and Mr Nov Sopankha. The occasion was attended by more than 240 attendees from more than 20 Churches and organisations.
The historic event began with the Blessing Dance presented by the Phnom Penh Promised Peoples Presbyterian Church (5Ps Church) Dance Group. This was followed by the unveiling of the SPCC plaque by H.E. Seang Bun Leang and Rev. Teo Yew Tiong, the Vice-Moderator of the PCS.
During his speech, H.E. Seang Bun Leang encouraged the churches to be faithful in serving and contributing to the people of Cambodia. He reiterated his friendship with us and assured SPCC of his continual support for social and community programs. The ordination ceremony saw the ordination of the first batch of SPCC ministers. The ceremony was officiated by Rev. Teo Yew Tiong together with Rev. Phua Chee Seng and Rev. Leow Khee Fatt. The ordinands were Rev. Pa Sokha, Rev. Ruos Saruon and Rev. Cheng Socheat. The ceremony was witnessed by the ordinand’s family members along with leaders and members from their churches. There were great excitement and joy as they joined the PCS ministers in officiating the ordination pledge and blessing for their ministries ahead. The ceremony concluded with benediction by the newly ordained ministers, followed by photo-taking sessions to commemorate the significant milestone. This was followed by the celebration dinner that was filled with joy and warm fellowship. On behalf of the Synod Missions Committee and the PCS Synod Exco, we express our utmost gratitude to all the workers and volunteer helpers for making this event a successful and joyous one. Most of all, we give God the glory for His grace and divine leading that made the establishment of SPCC possible. We look forward to the greater things that the Church of Jesus Christ will do, and be a blessing to the people of Cambodia for the Kingdom of God.
