Blessings to Generations - Commemorating 40 years of caring for the community together
Jun 2015

An evening that marked a significant milestone for the Presbyterian Community Services (PCS) as it commemorated 40 years of caring and giving to the community.

On 27 March 2015, almost 450 people came together at Qian Xi Restaurant located in the Civil Service College at Tessensohn Road to celebrate this significant occasion.

The Guest-of-Honour was Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Social and Family Development. Minister Chan congratulated PCS for arriving at this momentous milestone and encouraged all present to continue in doing good and doing it better.

In appreciation of Minister Chan's presence to grace the occasion, an art piece of Chinese calligraphy, written by a PCS Board Member, Elder Leong Kok Ho, was presented to the Minister. The calligraphy reflects the essence of Micah 6:8.

Elder Arthur Lim, Chairman of PCS, thanked the Minister for his significant contributions to the sector and wished him all the best as he moved on to take up the new appointment to head the Labour Movement (NTUC) in April 2015.

In conjunction with this celebration, Elder Lim also announced the formation of a Special Task Force to map out the future direction and scope of services in PCS for the next 10 years.

Out of graciousness, one of the guests remarked, "It was a celebration with a 'cast of thousands'".

Besides the presence of Minister Chan, the banquet was graced by a great company of distinguished guests. The newly installed Synod Moderator, Synod General Secretary and also Moderators of both Chinese and English Presbyteries were present to lend their heartfelt support to PCS. Amongst the distinguished guests, we have many senior pastors and leaders from the Presbyterian churches, agencies' heads and donors to witness this important milestone in the history of PCS.

We were very privileged to have in our midst, the attendance of Member of Parliament for Jurong Central, Mr Ang Wei Neng, who is also our Advisor to Grace Orchard School and Providence Care Centre to grace the occasion.

The General Secretary of the Council for World Missions (CWM), Rev Dr Collin Cowan and Director, Elder Wong Pock Yeen were also present.

In the Synod Moderator's Address, Rt Rev Dr Steven Gan spoke on the significance of the number 40 in the Bible. He congratulated PCS for achieving this significant milestone and wished the organization continued abundant blessings in the years ahead.

The highlight of the evening was of course the launching of the commemorative book, "Blessings to Generations" by the Synod Moderator.

A song composed along the same theme by Mr Joshua Tan, with lyrics written by Mr David Lim and Joshua, was sung. Invited guest singer, Ms Benita Lim You Hui, led and gave a beautiful rendition of the theme song.

Another highlight of the event was to recognize the contributions of our partners and members of the Presbyterian community who have contributed remarkably to the community or church.

Indeed, the celebration was meaningful and yet there was also a heaviness of heart as the nation was grieving the passing of our first and founding Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew.

The occasion provided an opportunity for PCS to gather the penning of condolences as a tribute to the late Mr Lee. The tributes were compiled and presented to Minister Chan.

Truly, as we counted our blessings, we are reminded of our responsibility to bring the blessings of God to even more generations to come. We thank God for His abundant providence for the last 40 years of caring for the community together with many church partners, stakeholders, volunteers, donors and even government agencies.

To God be the Glory!
