A Prelude to PCS's 140th Anniversary Event and Activities
In 2021 we will be celebrating the 140th Anniversary for the Presbyterian Church in Singapore. As per previous celebrations, the Synod and its working committee have planned various events to commemorate the occasion; however, due to the pandemic, instead of the usual physical gatherings, this coming year, things will be a little different. On Synod Sunday which falls on 11 July 2021, it will be the Day of Worship and Prayer, where all member churches will be invited to gather online for a combined worship session. The incoming Synod Moderator will also be giving a sermon on this day. Various events leading up to the main event include the 140th Anniversary Prayer Meets, which will start from Easter Sunday, till Synod Sunday in July, altogether a total of 14 weeks, symbolizing 140 years. Every week, two to three member churches (from both the English and Chinese Presbytery) will be invited to introduce about their ministries and share their prayer items. The prayer meets will be held via Zoom, and the duration will be about an hour. Asides that, the various Synod committees will also be organising some activities as well. The Synod Mission Council (SMC) will have one instead of two mission consultations in 2021. The international one will be postponed to 2022, hopefully with a physical gathering, should the global pandemic situation improve. Asian Institute of Calvin Studies (AICS) plans to organise two theological forums (one each in Chinese and English) to discuss the heritage of the Presbyterian Church, sometime end October. The Synod Women Council (SWC) intends to publish a book on the history of the Presbyterian Church in Singapore, testifying God's grace through presenting the heritage trail of the Singaporean Presbyterian Church in writing. By knowing more about the history of PCS, member churches may also gain a deeper understanding of the denomination and thus establish a sense of belonging. The Synod Youth Council (SYC) are also in discussion and will provide more details at a later date. More details regarding the above events will be shared closer to date. We ask for your prayers for the wisdom in planning and smooth organisation of the activities, that many will benefit in spirit through them.
