Synod's Follow-up Initiatives after the New Normal Forums

As part of the Synod Sunday Initiatives, the Synod organised two forums for all pastors from our member churches to discuss about the issues and challenges faced in the New Normal. More than 100 church leaders came together for the English and Chinese sessions last month, and discussed about various topics, including the challenges to go digital and produce online worship services, reaching out and connecting with the congregation (especially the elderly), doing missions in a different way, just to name a few.

Online Worship Grant and Video Production Training
To aid churches in going digital, under the Synod Solidarity Initiative (SSI), churches are able to apply for Video Equipment Grant for Worship Services (currently applications are filled) and acquire basic video devices with a 3-month Broadband subscription for five low-income families (per church) that may need the assistance. More subsidies may be available in the later part of the year if the Synod receives more funding from CWM.

The Synod is also planning to organise a few workshops regarding online worship production, usage of new media, etc. As such, we are currently open to suggestions and ideas on the types of training that the churches would like the Synod to host. Do reach out to us via your senior pastors should your church be interested in workshop topics related to online worship video production.

Communication with the Congregation
Some of the various ways member churches are reaching out to their congregation include producing Daily or Weekly Devotion materials (either in text, image or video) and sharing them through WhatsApp broadcasts, small group chatrooms and also Telegram groups (which people can easily join through the click of a link). Some are also hosting Bible knowledge webinars (via Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.), open to all of their church members, to enrich their spiritual life.
