From the Synod Moderator: Always More Than Enough
By Rt Rev Keith Lai
Sep 2020

ALWAYS NEVER ENOUGH
Do we ever ask ourselves why there is this deep inner sense of lack, of never having enough? It could be in the area of financial security, career advancement, relational depth, significance and meaning in life. Our appetites seems insatiable, our addiction all-consuming, our obsessions and cravings unending? The wise man in Ecclesiastes‬ who have probably tried every pleasure under the sun, offer us a clue in 3:11. NLT;

"Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God's work from beginning to end."

We were designed for eternity with everlasting longings and anything less or temporal will never satisfy. Christ puts in staggering language;

"You're blessed when you're at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule". (Matt 5:3 MSG).

So the next time we feel bored with whatever obsessions or left dissatisfied with our favourite Korean drama, God is saying something to us. Welcome and embrace this sense of lack as an invitation to delight in Him, where He promises fullness of joy and pleasure forevermore.

ALWAYS ENOUGH
When we are tempted to feel deficient or insufficient, there is always something you can give away. The striking testimony of the Macedonians in 2Cor 8:2.

For even during a season of severe difficulty and tremendous suffering, they became even more filled with joy. From the depths of their extreme poverty, super-abundant joy overflowed into an act of extravagant generosity. TPT

What is imponderable in this passage is that even when they were down to nothing, they could still find something to give. What a mind blowing paradox this is. Most of us will never get to experience this unless we are willing launch out in faith. There is no other way.

ALWAYS MORE THAN ENOUGH
After the little boy gave up his "little" and "insignificant" five loaves and two fishes, Christ did a miracle with it. He multiplied it to feed thousands.

"...they ate as much as they wanted... after eating their fill, they gathered 12 baskets of leftover.. And everyone ate until they were satisfied, for the food was multiplied in front of their eyes! And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children." (Matt 14:20-21, John 6:11-13)

We deprive ourselves of encountering the supernatural provision of God, when we live with a poverty mindset of "kiasuism". Let's start today to give courageously and audaciously.
