Appeal to Churches to support Mobile Blood Donation Drive
The Singapore Red Cross has reported a drop in blood bank attendance and blood collection over the past few weeks, which was further affected due to circuit breaker measures in place. The first week of circuit breaker saw less than a quarter of blood collection than usual, which is far below the daily usage required. The Singapore Red Cross is now reaching out to churches to support the Blood Donor Recruitment Programme, in order to replenish their blood bank and collections to meet Singapore's medical needs through their mobile blood drive initiative in May. They have gotten the approval from Ministry of Health (MOH) via Health Sciences Authority (HAS) to continue organising mobile blood donation drives in the community, as long as safe distancing measures are adhered to, and blood donation activities are classified as an "essential service".
