Supporting our family in Christ worldwide in midst of COVID-19 situation
May 2020

As the COVID-19 situation continues to persist across the globe, millions of people have been and are continually affected in terms of their health, their livelihood, their wellbeing physically and mentally. Just as how in John 13:34, Jesus commanded the disciples to "Love one another", as a body of Christ are to also love and care for one another during this difficult period.

The Presbyterian Church in Singapore has been working together with member churches and various local and international church and government organisations to provide support in COVID-19 relief initiatives. Should any member churches or individuals from the congregation be interested to participate, do contact us through your church leaders at office@presbysing.org.sg.

Nepal COVID-19 Relief Work

Nepal Focus Group, a subsidiary of Synod Mission Council (SMC), has received an urgent request from a ministry partner in Nepal, which aims to provide financial support for 200 needy families in Kathmandu. The money will be used to purchase a month's worth of food supplies for each family.

Many workers that live on a daily wage have suffered from a complete loss of income during the COVID-19 lockdown in Kathmandu. Thus, they are unable to feed their loved ones, especially families with elderly and children. Other disadvantaged groups include blind and handicapped communities in the outskirt villages of Kathmandu.

The Synod and members of The Presbyterian Church in Singapore have supported this relief project.

As of 6 May 2020, a total of 153 families have benefited from this relief work. More help will be available for such families once the Nepalese authorities approve the subsequent distribution permit.

COVID-19 Relief Support for Southern Presbytery of GPM

In view of the severity of COVID-19 outbreak and lockdown of the city, the Disaster Relief Committee of Southern Presbytery of GPM has reached out for urgent support. They face a lack of medical resources, especially in government hospitals, as well as material needs for the less privileged communities.

PCS and Jubilee Church, who also received this call for assistance through a missionary partner, have sent some support to the GPM to help them tide through this crisis.

A Special Gift from Singapore Christians to Christians in Wuhan, Hubei Province

Although the situation has turned for the better, many in Wuhan, Hubei Province in China, are still recovering from the aftereffects of the pandemic. To help Christians in Wuhan to cope with that, the NCCS has invited local churches to bless fellow Christians on their road to recovery, and the PCS has also responded and supported the cause.
