Development Support (DS) & Learning Support (LS)

Presbyterian Community Services embarked on the DS LS programme in 2015. This is a programme initiated by Ministry of Social and Family Development and is meant for pre-school children with mild developmental needs. It is a customised Early Intervention (EI) services. It equips pre-school children with developmentally appropriate skills to enable their developmental outcomes to be optimised.

Two types of direct support are provided:

1. Learning Support (LS)

• LS is provided by specially trained early childhood professionals known as Learning Support Educators (LSEds).
• Duration of Support are 6 or 10 weeks.
• Areas of Support: Literacy Skills, Language Skills, Social Skills and Handwriting Skills.

2. Development Support (DS)

• The children are supported by trained therapists. LSEds will continue to provide in-class support.
• Duration of Support are 10 or 15 weeks.
• Areas of Support: Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Literacy and Learning Support, and Psychological Services.
• Support Outcomes: Individualised education plan (IEP)
• Session Mode: Individualised / Small group / Classroom-based
• Frequency: Up to 1 hour per session, once a week

Singaporeans and PRs are eligible for means-tested subsidies. For Singaporeans, LS packages range from $5 to $130/month and DS packages range from $5 to $290/month.
