The Presbyterian Hub Update

The Presbyterian Hub is built

• to unite Presbyterian churches for better synergy and greater harmony,
• to serve as a positive witness to Christ,
• to be a welcome blessing to our communities, and
• to leave a living legacy to our future generations

We praise and thank God that the Hub project is progressing well. I am delighted to share the following highlights for your attention and intercession:

The Construction

Since our last update, we have met with URA four times, LTA once, MP of Joo Chiat once, and Siglap grassroots leaders (the Constituency where our land sits on) to assure all of the benefits and blessings that our Hub project will bring to the community. Please continue to pray with us that we shall soon receive the planning approval from URA for us to start the construction in 2015.

The Presbyterian Run & Walk

This is the first of our three major fund-raising events for the construction of our Presbyterian Hub. It will be held on the 8th November 2014, Saturday, 7.30am at the East Coast Big Splash where both the Competitive Run (10km) and the Family Run & Walk (3km) will take place. We hope to have at least 3000 participants for the former and 5000 for the latter. The Guest-of-Honour, our Minister for Health and fellow elder, Mr Gan Kim Yong, will flag off the event.

The Publicity and Registration

We met many of our church leaders on 2 separate Saturdays (28 June & 5 July) to explain and disburse donation cards for this fundraising event. We thank God that most of our churches have collected and distributed the donation cards (more than 10,000) to their members. Each card has a potential collection of $550. We prayerfully urge every member to do their utmost.

The launch of this fundraising event was done on Synod Sunday (13 July) for some churches and on subsequent Sundays for others. A video clip, posters, announcements, and donation cards were presented to our churches. The website of our event is currently active and registration for the Run has begun and is ongoing. All registrants will each receive a 10-item goodie bag.

Kindly sign up early to avoid last minute disappointments. Your early participation will help facilitate our planning and also create excitement, momentum and buzz - all highly critical to our event’s success.

Your Participation and Contribution

Other areas where help is needed are manpower, sponsorship, and further publicity. Managing 8,000 runners on Event Day is a mammoth task. We need 200 helpers. We praise God that some of our churches like All Saints PC, Amazing Grace PC, Covenant PC and Holy Grace PC are availing their members, and two of our schools - The Presbyterian High School and Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary School - are deploying their Boys' Brigade and possibly other uniformed groups, to help.

We really need your strong and active support in both the Fundraising effort and the Run itself. So join in the Run. Tell others about it and invite your friends, family, cell group, etc, to come on board!
