Synod Youth Council - Mentors Gathering

On 8th July 2014, Synod Youth Council invited Dr. Jeaney Yip to speak at our Youth Pastors-Mentors Gathering (YPMG) on the topic of "Marketing God". More than 60 youth leaders from 12 Presbyterian churches attended this talk.
Dr. Jeaney is a lecturer at the University of Sydney Business School. She teaches marketing and her academic research is on "Branded Religion: the Discursive Construction of a Mega-Church's Corporate Identity through Artefacts and Performance". With 10 years of extensive research done on several mega-churches across the world, she explained how the true message of the Gospel might be distorted by the medium of communication (i.e. marketing strategies) itself.
Before the chairman of SYC ended the night with a closing prayer, he commented, "Such academic research is important for the theological reflection of our faith. Thus, we hope that Dr. Jeaney continues to share her research results with other churches so that our young leaders can be equipped to respond to the reality of mega churches in this generation".
