Presbyterian Care Singapore - Network - Inaugural Conference
26 July 2014 marked an important day in the history of the Presbyterian Church in Singapore. The initiative to establish the Presbyterian Care Singapore was officially launched through the Inaugural Conference, "Impacting the Community: We are in it Together". This historical event was hosted by All Saints Home (Tampines), and attended by about 80 delegates from 18 Presbyterian churches and 15 community services organizations. The idea of the Presbyterian Care Singapore was mooted to fill the gap for a suitable common platform wherein Presbyterian-managed community services could be brought together in a relational network to present a unified image and presence. This purpose was clearly delineated by the Synod Moderator, Rt Rev. Leow Khee Fatt in the Opening Address to the delegates. The Moderator also suggested 3 new initiatives:
In the Keynote Address, Minister for Health, Mr Gan Kim Yong outlined the current social landscape and encouraged the various Presbyterian churches to work together so as to better impact the community. At the Conference, 9 speakers representing 8 social service organizations presented their services and highlighted the challenges. The distinguish speakers for the Inaugural Conference were:
Synod would like to register a note of gratitude to Elder Laurence Wee (Co-Chairman of the Conference), Ms Shirley Lim (staff of PCS) and Angelina Chew (staff of Synod), who had put in great effort to organize this Inaugural Conference.
