Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Schools 90th Anniversary
By Mrs Elsie Rajaratnam, Principal, KCPSS
Sep 2014
The Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Schools celebrated Founders’ Day this year very differently compared to previous years. Joined by the Chairman of their School management committee, instead of staying in school, they held a walkathoncum- heritage trail.
The walk started out with a video showcasing how the schools started, and how the first founding principal, Margaret Dryburgh, overcame difficulties such as the Japanese Occupation. Her sacrifice and contributions were the epitome of the ‘KCPS Spirit’ in being able to be joyful in the Lord in the midst of suffering.
The students then split up, with the secondary school students taking a longer route to the meeting point at Bishan Park. Along the route were various ‘stations’ with skits by student leaders featuring snippets of the history of the schools, helping the students understand and appreciate their past better.
At the meeting point, after an address by SMC Chairman, Elder Dr. Ho Yew Kee, a humongous group photo of both schools was taken utilizing a helicopter drone with a camera attached to it, capturing the vibrancy and zeal of the KCPS family and marking the close of the whole exciting event.
