Chinese Presbytery 22nd Annual General Meeting
By Rev. Hsieh Ta-Li (Chinese Presbytery Stated Clerk)
Jun 2014
The Chinese Presbytery (CP) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday, 18 January 2014, at the Spiritual Grace Presbyterian Church. The delegates from the various churches were all united in the focus on the development of the presbytery. The AGM was held in a very comfortable environment thanks to the efforts of the pastors, elders, deacons and co-workers under the leadership of the Senior Pastor of the host church, Spiritual Grace Presbyterian Church.
Worship was led by CP Moderator, Rev. Chau Soo Kheong, who shared the topic of "Serving in Grace" from Matthew 20:1-16 to encourage the delegates. The delegates revelled in worshipping God, lost in the beautiful melodies played by the orchestra of Spiritual Grace Presbyterian Church.
The Annual General Meeting officially started at 2.15pm. The highlight of the meeting was the election of the Executive Committee for the next session.
The current session appointed 3 interim Moderators: Rev. Lim Choon Guan (Agape Christian Centre), Rev. Dr Lau Fong Meng (Yung Kwang Presbyterian Church) and Rev. Jacob Hwang (True Way Presbyterian Church). The meeting came to a satisfactory closure at 6pm with a closing prayer by Rev. Lim Choon Guan.
Notice
TCPC
Our March 2014 Synod AGM resolution with regards to Toong Chai Presbyterian Church (TCPC) was as follows:
- To direct Toong Chai Presbyterian Church to amend her current Constitution in accordance with The Presbyterian Church in Singapore DC Model Constitution by 30 April 2014.
- To direct Toong Chai Presbyterian Church to change its name from Toong Chai Presbyterian Church to Toong Chai Chinese Presbyterian Church by 30 April 2014.
- In the event Toong Chai Presbyterian Church fails to comply with the above directives, the Synod or Ex-Co will take such actions as it deems appropriate against Toong Chai Presbyterian Church.
In view of TCPC's failure to comply with the resolutions of The Presbyterian Church in Singapore (PCS) as stated above, by 30 April 2014, the Executive Committee of PCS unanimously decided at its meeting held on 9 May 2014 that effective from 28 May 2014, TCPC ceases to be recognised as a member church of PCS.
Notwithstanding the cessation as mentioned above, we would state that TCPC is welcomed to re-apply to become a member church of PCS as and when it complies with the resolutions of PCS, subject to the approval of the Executive Committee of PCS.
Rev. Lim Chye Peng
Rev. Lim Chye Peng, the Senior Minister of TCPC had failed to lead TCPC to adhere to the resolutions taken by the Synod AGM and TCPC has ceased to be a member church of PCS, her ordination as a Minister of PCS is revoked effective 19 June 2014.
We would also like to highlight once again that if Toong Chai Presbyterian Church fulfils the above resolutions in the future, TCCPC would always be welcomed to re-apply to become a member church of PCS again. It would also mean that Rev. Lim Chye Peng would also be eligible to re-apply to be reinstated as a Minister of PCS.
